Fear not; wood-burning stoves are not banned in Woodford or any other parts of London for that matter. Having said that, London is a smoke-controlled area, and only DEFRA-approved stoves are authorised. It is also now law that stove manufacturers adhere to new Eco Design Regulations. This means all new stoves must meet the new efficiency standards issued by the Government as part of the Clean Air Strategy to help reduce harmful emissions.

No, stoves that are already installed are exempt from this. If you were to replace it in the future with an Eco Design stove, you would certainly be able to tell the difference in terms of heat and efficiency.

The city of London is a smoke-controlled area; all stoves used in London must be DEFRA-approved, and the use of unauthorised fuels is banned. 

We encourage our customers to purchase only ‘Ready to Burn’ wood for their stoves, which have a moisture content of 20% or less. Burning unauthorised fuel such as olive logs, wine logs, or household waste can result in a hefty fine.
